General Abdourahamane Tchiani Assumes Leadership in Niger Republic Following Coup

General Abdourahamane Tchiani has assumed the position of Head of the Transitional Government in Niger Republic after the recent coup that resulted in the ousting of President Mohamed Bazoum on Wednesday.

According to a report from state television on Friday, the Chief of the Presidential Guard was appointed as the “President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland.”

Following the coup on Wednesday, the Presidential Guard detained President Bazoum and restricted access to the Presidential Palace in Niamey. As a result, the leadership transition took place, and General Tchiani now leads the transitional government in Niger Republic.
