The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has deployed officers across all 27 local government areas to ensure safe and peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations. The move comes as residents prepare for holiday activities, including shopping, church services, family gatherings, and social events.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Badaruddeen Tijjani, the deployment involves regular and specialised units, including Operations, Anti-Vandal, and Intelligence personnel. The security coverage targets worship centres, public places, parks, markets, and major entry and exit routes to ensure surveillance and safety.
The NSCDC Commandant instructed officers to maintain professionalism and adhere to standard operating procedures while protecting public utilities, places of worship, and vulnerable areas. The public was urged to be law-abiding, report suspicious activities, monitor children’s activities, and avoid using fireworks or other dangerous items. Criminals and vandals were warned against targeting government installations and public utilities, with the assurance that offenders would face legal action.
Tijjani also emphasised cooperation with sister security agencies and called on the public to work with personnel to ensure a smooth festive period. The command extended Merry Christmas and New Year wishes to Christian faithful and all residents of Jigawa State.
