The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has appointed Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji as its new Public Relations Officer, marking a historic first for the agency.

The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement issued by Controller-General of Corrections Sylvester Nwakuche. The statement, signed on his behalf by Deputy Controller-General Ado Sale, said the appointment takes immediate effect.

Osuji succeeds Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025.

A native of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Osuji holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

The NCoS described her appointment as a milestone, noting that she is the first woman to serve as the Service Public Relations Officer. Enlisted into the then Nigerian Prisons Service in 2009 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II, Osuji has completed all mandatory professional courses required for her rank.

Her career has included specialised training, notably the Internal Security and Low Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.

Osuji has held key public relations roles across the Service, serving as Assistant PRO in the Lagos State Command, PRO of the FCT Command, and later Assistant National PRO at the Service headquarters, where she worked under four Controllers-General.

She also spent eight years with the Ministry of Interior, working extensively as Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023.

Until her elevation, Osuji served in the Public Relations Unit at the NCoS headquarters in Abuja.

The Service noted that she is married with children.
