Tinubu Commits N90bn to Support 400,000 Students Through Education Loan Fund – Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has committed more than N90 billion to support tuition and upkeep for 400,000 students across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

Idris disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday when a delegation of state Commissioners of Information, led by Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, paid him a courtesy visit.

He explained that the intervention was made possible through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a flagship initiative of the Tinubu administration aimed at ensuring that no Nigerian student is denied access to tertiary education due to financial hardship.

“The Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu has committed N90 billion to NELFUND,” Idris said. “The President’s vision is that no Nigerian child of school age should be denied the opportunity to attend tertiary institutions. This amount covers not just tuition but also upkeep allowances for more than 400,000 students across the country.”

The minister stressed that the initiative reflects President Tinubu’s broader vision of inclusive national development, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion.

“Nigeria under Tinubu is on the path to prosperity. This government is here to serve the interest of all Nigerians,” he added.

Idris also urged critics to set aside political sentiments, noting that the NELFUND and other federal programmes, such as the recently established Cancer Screening and Treatment Centres, are designed to benefit all citizens.

“The heart of President Tinubu is for all Nigerians, not for people of a particular political party or faith. He is the President for all,” Idris emphasised.
