Niger Delta Youths Call for Reinstatement of Rivers State NSCDC Commandant

In a significant development, Niger Delta youths have demanded the reinstatement of Basil Igwebueze, the Rivers State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who has recently been redeployed. The call comes from the South-South Youths Initiative, which has praised Igwebueze for his exemplary service and professionalism.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Imeabe Oscar, President of the South-South Youths Initiative, appealed directly to the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Audi Ahmed, urging him to reconsider the redeployment and reinstate Igwebueze. The group’s appeal is grounded in the Commandant’s record of effective service, particularly in combating illegal activities and enhancing security in the region.

Oscar highlighted that under Igwebueze’s leadership, several illegal bunkering sites were dismantled, significantly contributing to state peace and security. His efforts are credited with boosting the revenue accruing to the federal account by addressing illegal activities that threaten critical government assets.

The statement read, “One of the criteria for appointing heads of security agencies is professionalism. We are very pleased with Commandant Basil Igwebueze’s performance. His professionalism and diligence have been instrumental in the peace we enjoy in Rivers State.”

Oscar expressed concern over Igwebueze’s redeployment at a time when his continued presence was deemed crucial for consolidating his achievements. The youths emphasized that Igwebueze’s work has inspired confidence among the people of Rivers State and has positively impacted the NSCDC’s reputation.

“In as much as we commend the CG for his good work in posting competent officers to various states, we are asking for the reinstatement of Commandant Basil Igwebueze to continue his excellent work in Rivers State,” Oscar stated. “He has been highly effective, and there have been no recorded wrongdoings against him.”

The group underscored Igwebueze’s readiness to respond to any security challenges at any time, reinforcing their belief that his services are indispensable. They passed a vote of confidence in him and urged the Commandant General to heed their appeal for his return.

The appeal from the South-South Youths Initiative reflects the high regard in which Igwebueze is held and the impact of his work on regional security and governance.
