Billboard Promoting Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid Sparks Discussions in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – A large billboard promoting President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election has been spotted in the bustling Area One district of the Federal Capital Territory. The advertisement, which boldly suggests Tinubu’s potential re-election campaign, has sparked discussions among commuters and passersby in the area.

The billboard features the president alongside his wife, Remi Tinubu, with the message, “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 initiative.” While the president has not made any official announcement regarding a second-term bid, the appearance of the billboard has fueled speculation about his political future.

President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, following a successful presidential campaign that realized his long-standing ambition to lead Nigeria. However, his administration’s first 16 months have been marked by significant challenges, particularly related to economic reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the national currency.

These policies, though intended to stimulate economic growth, have led to widespread economic difficulties for many Nigerians, generating public discontent. The frustration reached a peak with the #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place across the country from August 1 to 10, 2024.

As the billboard raises new questions about Tinubu’s political trajectory, attempts to reach the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for comment were unsuccessful. Onanuga had not responded to calls or text messages as of the time of filing this report.

The billboard has sparked conversations about Tinubu’s presidency and whether he will formally declare his candidacy for a second term ahead of the 2027 election.
