“Northern Governors Strongly Condemn Christmas Eve Attacks on Plateau Communities”

The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) vehemently denounces the recent Christmas Eve attacks on communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local councils of Plateau State, expressing deep concern over the reprehensible and heinous nature of these incidents.

Chairman of the Forum and Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, delivered the condemnation on behalf of the 19 governors in northern Nigeria. In a statement, he conveyed the Forum’s heartfelt condolences to the affected families, communities, and the people of Plateau.

Yahaya described the loss of over 100 lives and the destruction of property during the attacks, especially amid Christmas preparations, as disheartening. He emphasized that such acts of violence are not only cowardly but also contrary to the spirit of unity and coexistence upheld by the region.

“We must all prioritize peace and harmonious living in our communities. Now, more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence and solidarity regardless of our differences,” stated Yahaya.

Commending Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his leadership in handling the situation, Yahaya assured that the Northern governors stand united in solidarity and are committed to working together to ensure lasting peace in the state.

He also commended the security agencies operating in the area, urging them to intensify efforts in safeguarding lives and property through increased vigilance and swift actions. The NGF reiterated its call for unity, peace, and security in the region, standing firm against all forms of violence and divisions
