Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and renowned business mogul, Aliko Dangote, held a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa, DRC, on Thursday. The purpose of the meeting revolved around exploring investment opportunities in the mining and agricultural sectors of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
President Tshisekedi, who was recently inaugurated for his second term after winning the presidential elections, welcomed the distinguished guests. Obasanjo, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, shared that the meeting served multiple purposes. Apart from congratulating President Tshisekedi on his re-election, Obasanjo also provided an update on the progress of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council.
During the meeting, the former Nigerian President expressed the friendly nature of the discussions and emphasized the potential economic benefits that could arise from closer ties, facilitation, and economic integration between the two countries under the DRC-Nigeria Business Council. Additionally, Obasanjo highlighted the presence of Aliko Dangote, one of Africa’s most significant investors, and the potential contributions he could make to the development of the DRC.
Aliko Dangote, in his remarks, conveyed his intention to make substantial investments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors. Seeking the blessing of President Tshisekedi for these investment plans, Dangote emphasized the importance of addressing these issues during their meeting.
The collaboration between Obasanjo, Dangote, and President Tshisekedi signifies a strategic effort to foster economic development and cooperation between Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
