The Ondo State Redemption Initiative (OSRI) has expressed strong opposition to the reported alliance between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and former Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
In a statement released by its President, Pastor Adebayo Ogunsanmi, Secretary Jide Oriola, and Publicity Secretary Sunday Ayeni, the group criticized Mimiko’s intervention in the affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as inappropriate and contrary to the party’s interests.
Titled “Aiyedatiwa’s Unholy Alliance with Mimiko,” the statement highlighted concerns over the appointment of key allies of Mimiko into the APC government and clandestine meetings between the governor and opposition figures, indicating a perceived desperation to cling to power at any cost.
The group accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of prioritizing personal ambition over the welfare of APC members who contributed to the party’s success in the 2020 governorship election. They also pointed out alliances with anti-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu forces, suggesting a strategy to undermine Tinubu’s influence in the state.
Specifically, Ogunsanmi underscored Aiyedatiwa’s ties with Bola Ilori and Tayo Okeyori, former proteges of ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, known for their opposition to President Tinubu during APC’s primary and election processes.
OSRI raised concerns about Aiyedatiwa seeking support from Mimiko, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a staunch critic of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. The group criticized the governor for being influenced by a PDP chieftain, emphasizing that Mimiko’s involvement began with efforts to undermine Akeredolu’s administration.
The statement highlighted the alleged recruitment of Kayode Ajulo and Paul Akinduro by Mimiko to support Aiyedatiwa in a bid to undermine Akeredolu. It also mentioned their subsequent appointment following Akeredolu’s demise.
OSRI’s condemnation signals growing concerns within the APC over perceived alliances that may compromise the party’s integrity and objectives in Ondo State.
