Omodewu, a distinguished lawyer from Otu, passed away late on Sunday, August 19, 2024, in the United States, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness since November 2023. His passing was confirmed in a statement released on Monday, August 20, 2024, by the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare, who shared the news with journalists in Ibadan.
The statement expressed the party’s shock and profound grief over the untimely demise of Omodewu, who had served as a Commissioner in various ministries during the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s two-term administration from 2011 to 2019. His tenure as state chairman was marked by significant challenges, yet Omodewu was credited with playing a crucial role in stabilizing the party during turbulent times.
“A big Iroko has fallen, and a significant void has emerged in our party,” the statement read. “Our late chairman was the embodiment of humility, kindness, and selflessness. It is deeply regrettable that he has passed at a time when his efforts towards reconciliation were finally beginning to bear fruit.”
