Oyo APC Mourns the Passing of Chairman Isaac Omodewu, Calls It a ‘Colossal Loss’

Ibadan, Nigeria — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State is in mourning following the death of its Chairman, Isaac Omodewu, a loss the party has described as both devastating and monumental, not only for the party but for the entire nation.

Omodewu, a distinguished lawyer from Otu, passed away late on Sunday, August 19, 2024, in the United States, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness since November 2023. His passing was confirmed in a statement released on Monday, August 20, 2024, by the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare, who shared the news with journalists in Ibadan.

The statement expressed the party’s shock and profound grief over the untimely demise of Omodewu, who had served as a Commissioner in various ministries during the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s two-term administration from 2011 to 2019. His tenure as state chairman was marked by significant challenges, yet Omodewu was credited with playing a crucial role in stabilizing the party during turbulent times.

“A big Iroko has fallen, and a significant void has emerged in our party,” the statement read. “Our late chairman was the embodiment of humility, kindness, and selflessness. He assumed leadership of the party during a particularly difficult period and worked tirelessly to restore stability. It is deeply regrettable that he has passed at a time when his efforts towards reconciliation were finally beginning to bear fruit.”

The party noted that Omodewu maintained close contact with friends, associates, and key stakeholders of the Oyo APC until his final days, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the party’s success.

In their statement, the Oyo APC extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman, and all members of the APC across Nigeria. The party also prayed for divine comfort and strength for Omodewu’s family, friends, and associates as they navigate this difficult period.

The loss of Omodewu is felt deeply within the APC and beyond, as his leadership and dedication were instrumental in the party’s ongoing efforts towards unity and reconciliation in Oyo State. His passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to the betterment of his party and his state.
