Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered an unexploded ordnance discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, noting that the recovery followed a report by one Babagana Kachalla, who spotted a suspicious object on his farmland.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, promptly deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 in Maiduguri and his team to the site.
“In line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was professionally cordoned off,” the statement read. “The UXO, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring approximately 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width, was found partially buried. The EOD-CBRN operatives conducted in-situ demolition before extracting the cluster munitions plates.”
Daso assured that the operation was completed without incident. He added that members of the community were sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) to better understand safety precautions whenever such dangerous objects are discovered.
The police urged residents of Borno to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or activities to the nearest police station.
