Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has praised former President Goodluck Jonathan and the late political icon Melford Okilo for their enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democratic and developmental journey.
Diri gave the commendation during his ongoing statewide thank-you tour, which made stops in key communities across the state. The governor said both leaders embodied selfless service and left indelible marks on Bayelsa and the nation at large.
While addressing supporters and stakeholders, Diri described Jonathan as a global statesman whose legacy continues to inspire peace, unity, and progress. He also honoured the memory of Okilo, the first civilian governor of the old Rivers State, crediting him for laying the foundation of modern governance in the Niger Delta.
The thank-you tour, which follows Diri’s re-election, aims to express gratitude to Bayelsans for their support at the polls. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, peace, and the prosperity of the state.
