In a recent broadcast on Monday afternoon, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State unveiled a major transportation initiative aimed at providing relief to commuters. The governor declared a 50% reduction in the fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, as well as a 25% reduction in the fares of commercial buses commonly known as “Danfo” in the state.
The reduction in BRT fares and “Danfo” bus fares will take effect from Wednesday, offering considerable cost savings for daily commuters. Governor Sanwo-Olu mentioned that the official announcement of the 25% reduction for “Danfo” buses will be made by the operators in that sector.
In addition to the fare reductions, the governor also announced other subsidy palliatives to alleviate the burden on citizens. These include bringing in more buses for the Staff Bus service catering to civil servants, and the distribution of raw food items to support poor and vulnerable families in the state.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ease the financial strain on citizens and enhance public transportation accessibility. Under the hashtags #FuelSubsidy and #GreaterLagosRising, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s move aims to improve the overall welfare and livelihoods of Lagos residents.
