Deji Adeyanju, a prominent socio-political activist, has advocated for the removal of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in response to the recent resignations within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeyanju emphasized the need to elect individuals who are genuinely committed to opposition work, preventing Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.
Taking to Twitter, Adeyanju expressed his views, stating, “The NWC of PDP should also be sacked following the resignation of key members of APC leadership. A new set of people who are ready to fulfill the role of opposition should be brought into the PDP. Otherwise, Nigeria risks transforming into a one-party state.”
Reports emerged over the weekend regarding the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu as APC National Chairman and Iyiola Omisore as the party’s National Secretary.
Following a closed-door meeting at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, the new APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by acting chairman Abubakar Kyari, confirmed Adamu’s resignation. Kyari addressed journalists after the meeting, affirming the NWC’s commitment to operating in accordance with the APC constitution.
Regarding the filling of the vacant seat, Kyari emphasized that there are established procedures to be followed, which will be announced in due course.
As political dynamics continue to evolve, the call for a restructuring of the PDP’s NWC reflects the activist’s concerns about maintaining a vibrant multi-party system in Nigeria, ensuring robust opposition for the overall health of the nation’s democracy.
