The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal recorded more than 26,000 visits just hours after the exercise commenced nationwide on Monday.

As of 12:35 p.m. on August 18, the number of hits on the platform had climbed to 26,255, according to a statement on INEC’s official X handle.

“Hits on the Continuous Voter Registration portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) climb to 26,255 as at 12:35 p.m. today, Monday 18th August 2025. Register Now,” the post read.

INEC announced that while the online pre-registration is now live, in-person registration will begin on August 25, 2025, at its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide to ensure easy access for prospective voters.

The Commission clarified that the CVR exercise is open to:

  • Nigerians who have turned 18 and are registering for the first time,
  • Those who wish to update their voter details,
  • Individuals transferring their voting location, and
  • Citizens seeking to replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

INEC further warned against multiple registrations, stressing that violators could face prosecution.

Encouraging mass participation, the Commission urged eligible citizens to take full advantage of the opportunity to register and prepare for future elections.
