Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at 11:50 a.m. on Friday, marking his first appearance in the state after six months out of office.

The governor’s return follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision, announced two days earlier, to lift the state of emergency imposed on Rivers in March.

A crowd of political allies and former officials welcomed Fubara at the airport, including former Commissioner for Information and Communications Emma Okah, former Health Commissioner Dr. Adaeze Oreh, and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands Oji Ngofa.

Others on hand were former Environment Commissioner Sydney Gbara, former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly Victor Oko-Jumbo, former Youths Commissioner Chisom Gbali, former Physical Planning Commissioner Evans Bipi, former NUPENG President Igwe Achese, former Education Commissioner Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, and former council chairmen Ezebunwo Ichemati (Port Harcourt City) and Obio/Akpor.

Governor Fubara is expected to resume full administrative duties and address pressing governance and development issues in the days ahead.
