A group known as the Akoko-Edo/Owan Credible Alliance for Better Representation has expressed its support for the zoning of governorship tickets to Edo Central by all political parties participating in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election scheduled for 2024. The group emphasized that such zoning would promote equity, fairness, and social justice, fostering peace, unity, and cohesion among the Bini, Esan, and Afemai people.
In a statement released yesterday, the spokesperson for the group, Com Rolland Igbadun, openly disagreed with a decision by a Benin-based group led by two former governors to keep the governorship ticket open to all contestants in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Igbadun urged political leaders like Chief Oyegun and Igbinedion to serve as role models for the younger generation and practice politics of inclusion rather than dominance.
The group pledged to mobilize voters in Edo North against any political party that fields candidates from Edo South, stressing the importance of ensuring that all political parties zone their tickets to Edo Central. Igbadun warned against allowing power to remain exclusively in Edo South, emphasizing that such a practice could lead to crises and should be avoided in the interest of the state’s overall development and harmony.
