Imo 2023: Ejiogu, Prioritizes Security and Economy in Imo State

In a resounding declaration during the launch of his campaign in Owerri, Sir Tony Ejiogu, the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the upcoming November 2023 Governorship Election in Imo State, has unveiled his top priorities for the state, emphasizing security and economic revival.

Ejiogu, while addressing the crowd, underscored the pressing need to rebuild Imo State, which he believes has experienced a distressing decline in recent years, moving from the Eastern heartland to what he terms the Eastern wasteland. He pledged his commitment to address the critical issues of insecurity and economic stagnation.

Highlighting his plans to address security concerns, Ejiogu stated, “It is time to remind Imo people that this is a time of great tension between good and evil, progress and retrogression, and a time to choose whether to continue on the path of destruction or begin the process of rebuilding our dear Imo.” He outlined a comprehensive strategy, including strengthening law enforcement and actively engaging communities to identify and mitigate conflict drivers.

Ejiogu further lamented the alarming youth unemployment rate in Imo State, despite its notable high literacy rates. He vowed to implement strategic economic reforms and initiatives to create an enabling environment for private enterprises to thrive, generating much-needed jobs and reducing poverty. Additionally, Ejiogu aims to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) by 50% within three years.

The APGA flag bearer, who is emerging as a formidable contender in the race for the Imo government house, also made promises related to workers’ welfare. He pledged to ensure a minimum wage of at least 80,000 naira per month for Imo workers and to settle pension and gratuity payments promptly.

Ejiogu’s economic agenda includes aggressive reforms in the agricultural sector to address food insecurity. His “One-Community-One-Product (OCOP)” initiative aims to harness the potential of various communities based on their existing comparative advantages to develop specialty products.

In addition to his policy proposals, Ejiogu expressed his commitment to devolution of powers and the restoration of the local government system. He promised to conduct free, fair, and credible local government elections upon assuming office, granting them complete financial and operational independence.

In closing, Ejiogu called on the people of Imo State to unite and make a choice for positive change, stating, “My stewardship shall remain committed to a purposeful, people-centered, servant leadership that considers our people’s plight and incredible strength in delivering social justice, good governance, and engendering economic prosperity and protection for all. Ndi Imo deserves fresh ideas and initiatives that will set and propel our dear state on a trajectory of peace, growth, and limitless prosperity.”
