The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the opening of its dedicated online portal for political parties to submit nomination forms, including candidate particulars, for the upcoming September Edo State governorship election. The portal is set to open on Monday and will close on March 24, 2024, according to a statement released yesterday by Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja.
Olumekun also disclosed that Access Codes for the portal will be available for collection by National Chairmen of political parties starting March 1, with a refresher training for two Liaison Officers per party taking place concurrently. The training, aimed at ensuring smooth nominations, will commence on March 1 and conclude on Monday at INEC’s Media Centre in Abuja.
Emphasizing the timeframe for submissions, Olumekun advised political parties that the allotted 20 days are sufficient for uploading nomination forms for only two candidates per party, namely the Governorship candidate and the running mate. He further stated that there will be no extensions beyond Sunday, March 24, 2024, and urged parties to adhere to the stipulated deadline.
