Kano Sociopolitical Group Defends APC Chairman Against Allegations

The Concerned Forum, a sociopolitical group in Kano, has strongly refuted the ongoing attacks against the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, asserting that such efforts will ultimately prove futile.

Addressing reporters in Kano, the forum’s secretary, Comrade Auwal Shuaibu, pointed fingers at the Kano State Government, accusing it of orchestrating a campaign to discredit Ganduje. Shuaibu highlighted the tendency of the state government to attribute various incidents to Ganduje, citing an instance where an independent Civil Society Organization (CSO) critical of the government’s performance was accused of being sponsored by Ganduje.

“The current administration in Kano seems averse to criticism and reluctant to accept responsibility for its shortcomings,” Shuaibu remarked.

He further urged the Kano State Government to prioritize governance over engaging in futile attempts to tarnish Ganduje’s reputation, emphasizing the pressing existential challenges facing the state.

Echoing Shuaibu’s sentiments, the forum’s chairman, Amb Abdullahi Mohammed, criticized certain civil society organizations (CSOs) for opposing the Inspector General of Police’s directive to withdraw police personnel attached to the Kano anti-graft agency.

“The IGP’s directive has no connection to Dr. Ganduje,” Mohammed asserted. He clarified that the suspension of the chairman of the Kano anti-corruption agency by the Court of Conduct Tribunal prompted the IGP’s action, which was lawful. Mohammed lamented the CSOs’ stance, suggesting that they had been influenced by their sympathy for the suspended chairman.

He emphasized that the IGP is not accountable to Ganduje and highlighted the independence of the police force from the influence of political figures. Mohammed concluded by accusing the CSOs of compromising their integrity by questioning the IGP’s directive.
