Kogi State Speaker Proposes Legislation for Senatorial Power Rotation

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf, announced plans to enact legislation ensuring power rotation among the senatorial zones in the state. This declaration was made during a meeting with the Kogi West Ododo/Joel Campaign Council, led by its director general, Mr. Funsho Olumoko.

In a press statement released by the chief press secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, Speaker Aliyu Umar Yusuf addressed the significance of power rotation, a contentious issue in the previous election, with three senatorial zones in the state—Kogi West, Kogi East, and Kogi Central.

The statement conveyed that the Speaker disclosed ongoing discussions within the state House of Assembly regarding the sponsorship of a bill to establish a legislative framework for the rotational system. The objective is to instill a sense of belonging for all senatorial districts in Kogi State.

Commending stakeholders in Kogi West for their efforts in securing victory for Alhaji Usman Ododo, Speaker Umar emphasized the importance of engaging with all candidates from the Western Senatorial District for the benefit of the area.

Several assembly members, including Princess Omotayo Adeleye-Ishayo, Olawumi Jacob of Mopa/Amuro, Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani (BEST) of Lokoja I, and Idrees Aliyu of Kogi Kotonkarfe State Constituency, lauded the Speaker for uniting members to achieve success in the recent gubernatorial election.

The director general of Kogi West Ododo/Joel Campaign Council, Mr. Funsho Olumoko, expressed gratitude during the visit, thanking the Speaker and House members for their encouragement and support during the electioneering campaign. He acknowledged the speaker’s humility and contributions that contributed to the party’s victory at the polls.

Additionally, State Security Adviser, retired Commander Jerry Omodara, emphasized the imperative of unity among all stakeholders in the Senatorial District.
