Tom Iseghohi, a gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State under the Labour Party (LP), has urged voters in the state to honor the zoning agreement made 25 years ago, despite his personal stance against zoning. While emphasizing that the Labour Party can secure victory with or without zoning, Iseghohi highlighted that, based on the power rotation agreement, Edo Central is entitled to produce the next governor.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms at the Labour Party’s headquarters, Iseghohi expressed confidence in Edo residents’ support for his party and its ideology. Addressing the significant security challenges in Edo, he asserted that tackling security issues is a top priority for his administration, emphasizing the crucial role of security in fostering development.
Acknowledging his expertise in capitalization, Iseghohi outlined plans to efficiently allocate the state’s resources for the benefit of all citizens. He emphasized a focus on practical goals, committing to enhance power distribution in every local government within the first year, with a long-term vision of transforming Edo into a logistics state.
Iseghohi also outlined plans to prioritize infrastructure improvement and job creation over the first three years, discouraging youth migration abroad. Despite personally not endorsing the concept of zoning, he emphasized the importance of respecting the zoning agreement that has been in practice for the last 25 years. According to Iseghohi, as a representative of Edo Central, it is the region’s turn to produce the governor.
Regarding party consensus, Iseghohi urged fellow aspirants within the Labour Party to unify their structures and support his candidacy. He highlighted the alignment of his ideology with the Labour Party’s principles, emphasizing the party’s popularity among Edo residents. Iseghohi expressed confidence that the Labour Party would secure victory and assume leadership in the state.
