The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the escalating hardships in Nigeria, expressing distress over the lack of concrete policies by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to address the critical situation. Following its 76th meeting in Abuja, the BoT, considered the moral compass of the party, criticized the APC for its perceived inadequate response to the country’s economic and security challenges.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the BoT raised deep concerns about economic hardship, soaring costs of essential commodities, and alarming food scarcity, attributing these issues to the ill-implemented policies of the APC administration. The BoT also expressed alarm over the worsening insecurity in the country, highlighting mass killings, banditry, kidnappings, and acts of terrorism that, in their view, have been exacerbated by the government’s laidback attitude.
The BoT condemned the alleged monumental corruption and treasury looting in the APC administration, particularly the misappropriation of funds meant for palliatives. Additionally, they expressed serious worries about the fall of the Naira, increasing fuel prices, and high inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates, creating a multi-dimensional crisis affecting millions of citizens.
The BoT voiced concerns about the exodus of hardworking young Nigerians, professionals, and major multinational companies leaving the country due to the dire economic and security situation. While urging President Bola Tinubu to address the issues promptly, the BoT declared the PDP’s commitment to remain united and steadfast in defending the interests and well-being of Nigerians.
In a bid to strengthen itself, the BoT confirmed Senator Adolphus Wabara as its Chairman and Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi as Secretary, aligning with the PDP Constitution’s provisions amended in 2017.
