Livy Uzoukwu, Responds to APC’s Call to Exclude Peter Obi in Potential Election Rerun

As the ongoing Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) continues to capture the nation’s attention, Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, has spoken out in response to a call made by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). During the adoption of their Final Written Address on Tuesday, August 1, APC’s attorneys, led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), urged the five-man panel of Tribunal Justices to exclude Peter Obi of the Labour Party from a potential election rerun. They contended that only the top two vote-getters should participate in a repeat election, and not the candidate who came in third.

However, in response to the APC’s appeal to the tribunal, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, who serves as the Lead Counsel for Peter Obi, emphasized that the issue raised by APC is a Constitutional question that should be left to the interpretation of the Appeal Court Justices. Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, Dr. Uzoukwu asserted that his team had done everything possible to secure a favorable ruling for the Labour Party. The situation remains closely watched by Nigerians, awaiting further developments in the proceedings.

He said, “You know that’s a constitutional matter, and we’ve talked about it enough already. So, it is for the court to decide. We offered numerous supporting arguments.

The court’s decision will stand as final. However, what really matters is that we made a strong and persuasive case”.
