Enugu, Nigeria – Traditional rulers in Enugu state have voiced their concerns over the escalating incidents of kidnapping in the Southeast region and the enforcement of the illegal Monday sit-at-home order. They consider these actions as foreign to Igbo culture and emphasized the need for resistance against them.
During an interactive session at the House of Assembly Complex, the monarchs called upon Governor Peter Mbah to take more decisive measures in combating kidnappers and those enforcing the sit-at-home order. They urged the governor to deploy joint security operatives across different communities to restore confidence among the people and enable them to engage in their lawful activities.
Representing their senatorial districts, monarchs such as Igwe Simon Osisi Itodo, Igwe RSN Eze, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, Igwe Godwin Madu, Igwe Julius Nnaji, and Igwe Greg Ugwu expressed their concerns and opinions during the session.
Governor Mbah addressed the royal fathers, expressing gratitude for their support during the election and providing them with an update on the security measures implemented to eradicate criminal elements and attract promised investments to the state.
He emphasized that eliminating insecurity, which is exacerbated by hoodlums exploiting the sit-at-home order to disrupt the economy and inflict suffering on citizens, is crucial to transforming the state into a premier investment destination. This transformation would involve eradicating poverty, establishing theme parks, attracting over three million tourists annually, generating employment for youths, and elevating the state’s gross domestic product from its current $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
The meeting served as a platform for collaboration and planning to address the security challenges faced by Enugu state and work towards fostering a safe and prosperous environment for its residents.
