Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has conceded that the party currently lacks the capacity to secure victories in elections within Lagos State. Aniebonam made this candid admission during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while discussing the party’s prospects in the upcoming by-election in Surulere I Federal Constituency.
Expressing a realistic assessment, Aniebonam stated, “For now, Lagos state election is a very serious election. For me, I don’t think that we have the capacity to win an election in Lagos State for now. Maybe in the future, we will try to see what we can do to win elections in Lagos state.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier announced that 12 candidates from various political parties would be participating in the February 3 by-election, excluding the NNPP. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who, after winning, was appointed as Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu.
Regarding the recent prayer session organized by the NNPP ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Taraba governorship election, Aniebonam clarified that the prayers sought divine intervention for the NNPP and its governorship candidate, Prof. Sani Yahaya’s appeal. He added that the prayer session also aimed to express gratitude for the party’s victory in Kano state at the Supreme Court. (NAN)
