Iperu Remo, August 30, 2024 — A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Akintunde Armstrong, has refuted allegations that he is attempting to impose councilorship candidates for Iperu Wards three and five in the Ikenne Local Government Area. The allegations, which also claimed Armstrong boasted about using $80,000 to secure the councilorship tickets for his loyalists, were dismissed by Armstrong as baseless and the work of political opponents.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media assistant, Oluseun Joshua, Armstrong described the allegations as “the ranting of rudderless opposition to tarnish my image, misinform the public, and score cheap political points.” He emphasized that the accusations were unfounded and should be ignored by the public.
The Iperu Remo-born politician expressed shock at the claims, questioning the logic behind spending such a significant sum of money in the current economic climate. “How could someone in his right senses with this harsh economy be boasting about spending a whopping sum of $80,000, which can’t be less than N120m, to impose councilorship candidates? It is just sheer absurdity and lies from the pit of hell,” Armstrong stated.
Armstrong also dismissed allegations that he claimed even Governor Dapo Abiodun could not stop him from pushing his agenda. He reiterated his loyalty to Governor Abiodun, whom he described as his leader and mentor, and affirmed his commitment to following the Governor’s direction within the party.
The APC chieftain clarified that the video being circulated by his opponents was related to the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda’s efforts to support and empower party members, not a personal scheme to impose candidates. Armstrong reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the party in selecting the right candidates and achieving a resounding victory in the upcoming November 16 local government elections.
Armstrong’s statement comes as political tensions rise ahead of the local government elections, with various factions within the APC maneuvering for influence and control.
