PDP and Governorship Candidate React to Court of Appeal’s Decision in Abia State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, alongside its governorship candidate Chief Okey Ahiwe, has called for calm among members and supporters in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal’s dismissal of their appeal against Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 governorship election.

Following the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of the governorship election petition tribunal’s decision favoring Otti, both the PDP state chapter and Ahiwe released statements expressing confidence in the judiciary as a vital safeguard for democracy and the common man.

The PDP’s acting publicity secretary in the state, Abraham Amah, emphasized, “We urge members of the PDP, our numerous supporters, and the good people of Abia State to remain resolute, calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, placing our trust in God and the judiciary as we explore available options.”

Addressing the people of Abia, Amah added, “We want the residents who have endured the adverse effects of Alex Otti’s policies to understand that our party will not forsake them.”

In a separate message to his supporters, Ahiwe remarked, “Our pursuit to reclaim our mandate through legal channels was a well-thought-out decision, aware that it would be a prolonged and intricate process. Despite inevitable challenges, our destination remains clear, and our unwavering focus persists.”

Ahiwe continued, “At this juncture, our faith in God is revitalized, and our trust in the judiciary remains steadfast. I encourage all my supporters to stay composed, continue praying, and look beyond the current challenges.”

Indications are strong that Ahiwe and the PDP will take their case to the Supreme Court, signaling a continued legal battle.
