The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that no decision has been made regarding the zoning of its governorship ticket in Ondo State for the upcoming November election. This statement follows a stakeholders meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday between the National Working Committee (NWC) and aspirants.
After the meeting, some aspirants briefed the media, asserting that a consensus had been reached to zone the party’s governorship ticket to the southern district of the state. However, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba, refuted these claims, stating that the party has not officially zoned the ticket to any specific part or area of the state.
Ologunagba assured all intending governorship aspirants and PDP members in Ondo State of a fair and transparent nomination process in accordance with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act of 2022, and the Party Guideline for the Election. The NWC emphasized its commitment to an inclusive and transparent nomination process leading to the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
To further ensure reconciliation and unity among party stakeholders in Ondo State, the NWC approved the convening of a special meeting involving Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, top party leaders from Ondo State, and the NWC.
The PDP called on all stakeholders to demonstrate fidelity to the party, work together for the greater interest of the party, and contribute to rescuing Ondo State from the perceived failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. The NWC also reiterated its call for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024.
