Bokkos, Plateau State — A suspected armed robber was killed during a shootout with police operatives in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday night. The incident occurred when a patrol team from the Plateau State Police Command encountered a roadblock set up by the criminals.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed the details of the encounter. The statement, signed by the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, indicated that the patrol team was en route to Bokkos LGA when they stumbled upon the roadblock.
“On August 29, 2024, at about 8 pm, our patrol team attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS), State Headquarters Jos, encountered a roadblock mounted by suspected armed robbers,” the statement read.
The suspects, upon noticing the approaching patrol vehicle, opened fire on the officers, triggering a gunfight. During the exchange, one of the suspects was neutralized, while the others managed to escape into the surrounding forest. The Divisional Police Officer from Bokkos division later visited the scene, and the suspect’s body was taken to the Bokkos Public Morgue.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Adesina, reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. He urged the community to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue to apprehend the remaining suspects.
