The All Progressives Congress (APC) faction in Rivers State, aligned with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has refuted any collaboration with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Emeka Beke, the chairman of the disbanded APC executive in the state and a supporter of Amaechi, addressed the media in Port Harcourt to dispel rumors of his alleged defection to Wike and the PDP. This clarification comes in the wake of a viral video showing Beke interacting with Wike at an event in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
Beke emphasized that he leads the only legally constituted APC in the state and categorically denied any alignment with Wike. He clarified that the event in question was the 60th birthday celebration of a club member, Isobo Jack, and the interaction with Wike was merely a social exchange at the party.
Beke stated, “I still remain where I belong in politics. Wike is never an option for me at all in politics. I can’t work with him because we don’t have the same style, and I have my integrity to protect.”
The publicity secretary of the disbanded APC in the state, Darlington Uwauju, also urged the public to disregard Chief Tony Okocha’s APC Caretaker Committee in the state. Uwauju insisted that their tenure was still valid, pointing to Article 17 of the party constitution, and criticized the national leadership for dissolving the elected executive abruptly. He argued that the law does not permit the National Working Committee to dissolve an elected executive.
