Sen. Annie Okonkwo Laid to Rest

Ojolo, Anambra State – In a solemn ceremony held this Wednesday, the late Senator Annie Okonkwo, a prominent figure who represented Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2011, is being laid to rest in his country home of Ojolo, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The funeral proceedings took place at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Ojolo.

Senator Okonkwo’s passing on June 8, 2023, at the age of 63 in the United States after a prolonged illness, sent ripples through the nation. His demise came just a few weeks after his birthday anniversary, marking an emotional chapter in his life story. Known for his dedicated service to both politics and his faith, he held the esteemed title of Knight of Saint John and was an active member of the Catholic Church.

Dignitaries from various walks of life graced the funeral service to pay their respects. Notable attendees included the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and Governors Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State and Alex Otti of Abia State. Also present was Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, accompanied by his wife. Senator Ifeanyi Uba and other prominent figures were also in attendance, highlighting the widespread respect and admiration for Senator Okonkwo.
