Spyro Responds to Criticism Over Church Performance: ‘I’m Human, a Christian

Popular Afropop singer Spyro has addressed criticism following his performance at a church Christmas carol event, where he collaborated with Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Center. The singer faced backlash from Nigerians who disapproved of a secular musician participating in a church function.

In response to the criticism, Spyro asserted his humanity and Christian faith, emphasizing that he has been a member of Harvesters for over seven years, actively serving in two church departments. The singer defended his involvement in the church’s drama ministration during the annual carol service called Fantasia, emphasizing that the event was free for all attendees.

Spyro, known for hits like ‘Who Is Your Guy’ and the subsequent remix featuring Tiwa Savage, highlighted that his celebrity status doesn’t diminish his humanity or his ability to serve God like any other church member. He clarified that the circulating social media clip was from a drama presentation at the church, and the tickets for the carol service were free.

The singer concluded his response by reiterating his status as a human, a Christian, and an active member of a real church.

Spyro’s rise to fame began with the release of ‘Who Is Your Guy’ in November 2022, and he later collaborated with Tiwa Savage for the remix. Despite his success in the music industry, Spyro remains committed to his church and has actively contributed to various church activities.
