President Bola Tinubu expressed strong optimism regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chances in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State during an event in Abuja yesterday. Tinubu conveyed his confidence while presenting the party’s flag to the governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa.
Speaking before a gathering of party stalwarts led by the national chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Tinubu assured unwavering support for the candidates, stating, “If you are happy; we are happy. If you are determined; we are determined. We are going to work with you. We are going to stand with you like the wall of Gibraltar.” He underscored the significance of victory, highlighting the party’s commitment to achieving success.
Tinubu commended the party leadership in Edo for their dedication and singled out Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of the state, for his exceptional leadership. He emphasized the importance of Okpebholo and Idahosa in securing victory for the party, referring to them as “giant killers” who have diligently collaborated with party leadership.
The president also emphasized the crucial role of women in securing victory, stating, “If the women say we are going to win, then we are good to go because they constitute the largest number of voters and the most dedicated.”
In his remarks, Ganduje emphasized the unity of purpose within the party and expressed confidence in Okpebholo’s candidacy, describing him as “soft-spoken, focused, and an achiever.”
Meanwhile, former senior special assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Anti-human Trafficking Issues, Comrade Solomon Okoduwa, hailed the selection of Hon Dennis Idahosa as Okpebholo’s running mate, describing it as a “political masterstroke.” Okoduwa asserted that the APC is now more united and prepared to seize victory in the September 21 governorship election in the state. He praised the party’s leadership for nominating the right candidate for the position, stating that the choice of Idahosa resonates well with the youths.
