Tottenham Sign Dominic Solanke in Record-Breaking Deal

Tottenham Hotspur have significantly strengthened their attacking lineup for the new Premier League season by acquiring striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in a deal that could total £65 million ($83 million).

The 26-year-old Solanke has signed a six-year contract with Spurs, with the initial transfer fee set at £55 million and an additional £10 million in potential add-ons. If the full fee is met, Solanke will become Tottenham’s record signing.

Solanke, who began his career at Chelsea and had a brief stint at Liverpool, joined Bournemouth in 2019. He had a standout season in 2023/24, scoring 19 Premier League goals. He is anticipated to make his debut for Tottenham in Saturday’s friendly against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham refrained from signing a striker last year following Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich. With Solanke’s arrival, the club aims to boost their chances of returning to the Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season.

Bournemouth owner Bill Foley confirmed that Solanke’s contract included a release clause around £65 million, making his departure a club record sale, surpassing the £40 million received for Nathan Ake’s transfer to Manchester City in 2020.

Bournemouth’s Chief Executive, Neill Blake, praised Solanke’s performance and development, stating, “After Dominic’s impressive 2023-24 season, it’s no surprise that a team of Tottenham’s stature has shown interest. We are pleased to secure a club-record fee for Dominic and wish him the best for the future.”
