The University of Cross River State’s Alumni Association has urgently appealed to Governor Bassey Otu for a financial bailout to address the three-month backlog of staff salaries. Dr. Inyali Peter, the National President of the association, expressed concern in a letter to the governor, highlighting the plight of university workers facing unpaid April and May 2022 salaries, along with pending November 2023 wages.
In the letter, Dr. Peter emphasized the urgency of clearing the November and December salaries, which are currently in jeopardy. He lamented the challenges faced by university staff during the festive season, unable to provide for their households due to the delayed wages.
Dr. Inyali Peter’s letter stated, “I appeal to you, Sir, to look into this unsavoury situation of staff of UNICROSS and come to their rescue. We know times are hard; but please see what you can do!” The association recently donated 50 bags of rice to support the university’s lecturers during the Yuletide.
As the university grapples with financial strains, the appeal underscores the critical need for immediate intervention to alleviate the financial burdens faced by UNICROSS staff.
