In the wake of political turmoil in Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserts that its strategic interventions are effectively countering challenges, dismissing claims by former Governor Sule Lamido. Following an emergency meeting, the National Working Committee (NWC) assures party members of unity and strength in Rivers State and nationwide.
Under the Acting Chairmanship of Umar Iliya Damagum, the NWC reaffirms its commitment to providing steadfast and effective leadership despite alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dismantle opposition and establish a one-party state.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, conveyed the party’s displeasure over imprudent conduct and reckless remarks from certain leaders aiming to discredit vital party organs. The statement highlights former Governor Sule Lamido’s public remarks as particularly detrimental to party cohesion.
The NWC condemns actions by individuals, accusing them of collaborating with the APC administration’s alleged quest for a one-party state. It criticizes those who have benefitted from the PDP yet engage in actions inconsistent with the party’s values and objectives. The statement emphasizes that such conduct contradicts the party’s constitution and vows appropriate disciplinary actions according to Sections 57, 58, and 59.
The PDP maintains its commitment to constructive governance suggestions and cautions against actions that undermine the party’s genuine efforts. The NWC concludes that it will enforce disciplinary measures against individuals whose actions are deemed in violation of the party’s constitution.
