Win for Wike’s Camp as Court Nullifies PDP’s Ibadan Convention

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Uche Agomoh barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The judge held that the convention was organised in blatant disregard of existing court orders, stressing that the PDP could not disobey court directives and still approach the court to seek judicial validation for actions taken in defiance of those orders.

Agomoh ruled that the party can only operate under a caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention is conducted.

The judgment followed a suit filed by a faction of the PDP NWC led by Turaki, seeking judicial recognition of the Ibadan convention and validation of the NWC members elected at the event.

At the controversial convention, 20 NWC members were elected, including Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman, Hamza Akuyan Koshe as Deputy National Chairman (North), Daniel Ambrose Woye as Deputy National Chairman (South), and Arapaja Taofeek Gbola-Oladejo as National Secretary.

The convention was held amid conflicting court orders. On October 31, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the PDP from proceeding with the convention, with Justice James Omotosho ruling that the party failed to conduct valid state congresses as required by the 1999 Constitution, INEC guidelines, and the PDP Constitution.

However, on November 4, 2025, an Oyo State High Court ordered the PDP and Umar Damagum, the former national chairman, to proceed with the convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan.

The legal confusion deepened again on November 11, 2025, when Justice Peter Lifu of the Abuja Federal High Court issued another order restraining the party from holding the national convention.
