In a significant move towards bolstering democratic principles within its ranks, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is considering the establishment of a National Institute of Progressive Studies, according to the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. This transformative initiative, part of the APC’s agenda for 2024, aims to serve as a platform fostering a deeper understanding of democratic values among party members and the public. Ganduje revealed this development after meeting with the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Thursday. The proposed institute will play a pivotal role in enlightening individuals about the nuances of democracy, internal party democracy, the importance of steering clear from hate speeches, and adherence to legal principles in electoral processes. “The establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies is to enlighten our members, even members of the public, on the doctrine of democracy, on the issues of internal democracy, issues of avoiding hate speeches, and also issues of abiding by the rules of the law pertaining to election and other processes,” explained Ganduje during the press briefing. He further highlighted the institute’s collaboration with the government, emphasizing its role in formulating policies conducive to democratic ideals. The APC envisions the institute as a hub for cultivating informed and responsible political engagement, contributing to the advancement of democratic governance in Nigeria.
