Dr. Azemhe Azena, a philanthropist and televangelist, has secured the candidacy of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State on September 21. The victory was achieved through a resounding result in the primary, where Azena garnered 211 votes, surpassing three other aspirants.
The primary took place at Depraisery Event Centre, Ugor Road, in Benin City on Friday. A statement from the national publicity secretary of the NNPP, Hon. Yakubu Shendam, conveyed that the result was officially announced by the chairman of the NNPP Edo State primary election committee, Sen. Kawu Sumaila. Azena emerged as the winner, defeating Peter Okieguale, who secured the second position with 100 votes. Rev. Sebastian Iyere and Balogun Engeyemhe occupied the third and fourth positions with 25 and 17 votes, respectively.
Azena, the regional pastor of Omega Fire Ministry South-South, is a native of Okpekpe in Etsako-East, situated in the Edo North senatorial zone. The NNPP’s decision to field Azena reflects the outcome of a competitive and well-contested primary election, positioning him as the party’s candidate for the crucial gubernatorial race in Edo State.
