Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has extended his warm congratulations to Afam Osigwe (SAN) on his election as the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang also commended the newly elected executive members of the NBA.
Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence in the new leadership’s commitment to advancing truth and justice for all Nigerians. He praised the NBA for organizing a successful election, emphasizing the association’s crucial role as the “conscience of society and the hope of the common man.”
The governor highlighted Osigwe’s leadership qualities and dedication to the legal profession, expressing hope that his extensive experience will elevate the NBA’s impact. Mutfwang believes that Osigwe’s vision will inspire NBA members to deliver effective legal services that will benefit the nation.
“On behalf of the Plateau State government and its people, Governor Mutfwang congratulates Mazi Osigwe and his team, praying for divine wisdom and strength to guide them in providing effective and responsive leadership throughout their term,” the statement read.
The governor also extended his appreciation to the outgoing NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), for his leadership and legacy of justice, fairness, and excellence during his tenure.
According to PUNCH Online, Osigwe, a former general secretary of the NBA, was elected president in the 2024 NBA election held online. The election results, published on Sunday, show Osigwe securing 20,435 votes, defeating his closest rival, Tobenna Erojikwe, who received 10,998 votes, and former NBA Lagos Branch Chairman Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN), who garnered 9,018 votes.
The election process, which began at 12 a.m. on Saturday and concluded at 11:59 p.m., was closely monitored and the results were made available at NBA Election Results.
