Isaac Fayose, the brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has proposed a solution to the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East region.
In a video statement on Monday via X, Fayose suggested that President Bola Tinubu could potentially resolve the security crisis by releasing and collaborating with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Drawing a parallel to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s approach in the Niger Delta, Fayose stated, “If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to secure peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the South East?”
Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, is a former militant commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta. He was reportedly engaged by the Jonathan administration to help secure oil installations in the region.
Fayose argued that releasing Kanu could potentially reduce security spending in the South East by half. “If we are spending so much money on security in the South East, the expenditure will be reduced by 50% by releasing Kanu,” he said.
The social media activist added, “If I were President Tinubu, after noticing that the South East people didn’t vote for me, I would have released Kanu to counter them.”
Kanu, the leader and founder of IPOB, was arrested by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Fayose emphasized the potential for reconciliation, stating, “At least releasing Kanu can make some of the South Easterners think that this man has good intentions.”
He suggested that Tinubu could approach Kanu by saying, “My son, you know what, I need your help to restore peace in the South East. I will give you all it takes.
