In the midst of the escalating rift between the Governor of Rivers State, Similaye Fubara, and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the One Love Foundation (OLF) has expressed deep concern. Today, the foundation called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Chief Patrick Eholor, the Founder and President of OLF, emphasized that no individual, regardless of their political influence, should act as a self-appointed deity within the democratic framework. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to reject such brazen impunity, especially in a volatile state like Rivers. Despite Wike being a chieftain in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the foundation implored President Tinubu to use his influence to deescalate the rising tension.
Eholor highlighted Wike’s admission of buying tickets for the entire Port Harcourt House of Assembly, labeling it a blatant violation of democratic norms. The foundation asserted that such actions should face legal repercussions, emphasizing the need for urgent federal government intervention.
“As concerned citizens, we must urgently call on the federal government to intervene in the Rivers State crisis. President Tinubu, we appeal to your leadership to swiftly address this situation and prevent further escalation,” Eholor stated.
The foundation stressed the potential repercussions of a destabilized Rivers State on the entire nation, urging for a peaceful resolution and considering a state of emergency if necessary. Ethnic considerations, according to Eholor, must be avoided for harmonious coexistence among the diverse population of the state.
“President Tinubu, the time is now to demonstrate strong and decisive leadership, upholding the democratic values that form the bedrock of our great nation. In unity and hope,” concluded Chief Patrick Eholor.
