The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the husband of Mrs. Toluige Olokoobi, the mother of the famous ‘mummy calm down’ boy, following reports of her tragic suicide. The news of Olokoobi’s death was first shared by a social media user, who was present at the scene of the incident, revealing that she took her own life in Benin, leaving behind three children, including the well-known ‘Mummy Calm Down’ boy.
A resident of the area further confirmed the suicide, noting that the deceased ended her life in front of her one-year-old son. Olokoobi worked as a medicine distributor, while her husband was employed as a taxi driver and car dealer.
Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, informed BBC Pidgin that the deceased’s husband was arrested and detained for questioning. According to Nwabuzor, the husband discovered his wife hanging with a rope around her neck when he returned home from the market. He alerted neighbors, who accompanied him to the hospital, where her death was confirmed. The police spokesman mentioned that the body has been deposited at the mortuary, and the husband will be transferred to the State CID for further investigation.
It is noteworthy that Olokoobi and her son, Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, gained attention in 2020 when the boy’s video pleading with his mum to “calm down” went viral. The family later met with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who praised the boy’s courage and composure.
