Stakeholders and professionals in Akwa Ibom State have called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to issue an apology to former Governor Arc. Obong Victor Attah and other past leaders. The demand comes in response to Akpabio’s recent statements against them, characterized as unwarranted outbursts.
Operating under the banner of Akwa Ibom Professionals, the stakeholders emphasized that Akpabio’s alleged plan to forcefully take over Akwa Ibom State in 2027 would not succeed. They advised him to recognize that the people of Akwa Ibom State, under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno, have embraced unity, progress, and development, rejecting what they referred to as Akpabio’s “self-aggrandizing and divisive antics.”
Akpabio had reportedly made claims about his administration’s achievements, asserting that meaningful progress and development were absent in any part of the state before he assumed office in 2007. In response, the group, led by national coordinator Engr. Ufot Akan Umoren, criticized Akpabio for disparaging former Governor Victor Attah and accused him of attempting to sow discord and derail the current administration in the state for his own agenda.
Umoren dismissed Akpabio’s assertion of taking over Akwa Ibom State in 2027 as an empty boast, reminding him that similar threats in 2019 had proven futile. The group accused Akpabio of deploying hate speech and false claims to create divisions among communities, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth groups.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the stakeholders condemned Akpabio’s actions and statements, labeling him as “wholesomely self-conceited.” They emphasized the foundational work and achievements of former Governor Obong Victor Attah, attributing major projects in the state to Attah’s administration. The group called on Akpabio to apologize to Attah and other leaders, urging him to concentrate on his duties as Senate President in Abuja and refrain from making divisive statements in Akwa Ibom State.
