Kano State House of Assembly Passes Bill to Establish Second-Class Emirates

Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill into law for the establishment of second-class Emirates in the state.

The legislative process began before the House embarked on a recess, with the first reading of the bill taking place prior to their break. Upon resuming session, the House conducted the second and third readings of the bill.

During the plenary, which was presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore, Deputy Speaker Muhammad Butubutu moved for the bill’s adoption and passage.

The newly established second-class Emirates include:

  • Rano Emirate: encompassing Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya.
  • Karaye Emirate: encompassing Karaye and Rogo.
  • Gaya Emirate: encompassing Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu.

The establishment of these second-class Emirates comes amid a prolonged Emirship tussle in Kano State involving Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero. The move aims to restructure the traditional institution within the state.
